Bible Passage: John 20:24-31
Every thinking person sometimes wrestles with doubt. That is true not only for thinking Christians, but also for atheists and agnostics. Sometimes we wonder, "What if I'm wrong? What if Christianity is not true?" For some, the doubts are relatively minor and fleeting. For others, the doubts are deep and disturbing. But wherever you're at on the spectrum, if you've been a Christian for a while, you have gone through times when you struggled with doubt. Sometimes we are made to feel guilty for harbouring doubt, but doubt can be the tool that God uses to help you grow. That was certainly the case for Thomas. After all that he had seen of the brutal treatment and death of Jesus, his hopes and dreams are crushed. The other disciples excitedly share their meeting with the risen Jesus and Thomas has doubts. Once he meets Jesus he moves from doubt to faith, making the first clear declaration of Jesus, 'My Lord and my God.' We too have sources to overcome our doubt and grow through it.
