Sunday 5pm

Posted 1 December 2010, 9:59 AM by Margaret Nugent. Permalink

In this part of the world we learn to be independent, and to do things ourselves. "I did it my way" is an old song, but today's generation is living its creed more than ever. This has disastrous consequences for church health and undermines personal growth to a frightening degree. This is why we've been working through the process of discipleship. We have covered the three basic components: Glorify, Nurture, Bring Others. This week (5pm) we tie it all together and see how the process works and what the Bible says about it. We'll be looking at how we support one another in this process and the advantages of walking this path with others. Read ahead at Col 1:1-14

Sunday 9am

This Sunday morning we are finishing off our reFORMed series. Building on the Biblical concept of the sovereignty of God, we will be looking at God's redeeming and restoring work in every corner of life, society and culture, and that everything we do is 'spiritual' and done for the glory of God. It means that whether we are playing tennis, eating sandwhiches, or working in the garden, we are involved in activities that God is deeply interested in.

What do the following have in common: 1. your lawnmower 2. your car 3. your fishing trip 4. That fantastic double shot latte in your hand. Having trouble answering? You're no different to anyone else: we all have trouble connecting the dots. Our culture decrees that faith be separated from life, 'church' be separated from home, and Christians be separated from the rest of the world. Is it any wonder that many who are far from God think faith is irrelevant? But is the way we live helping the situation? Does the way RCRC expresses itself challenge any of this? Here's the good news challenge: God calls us to a maturity which reconnects and re-integrates life. Our mission is life affirming, Christ centred, and world changing. Come along on Sunday and find out how we can do that together.

This would be a good opportunity for the church community to come along and engage with the counsillors, explain any concerns or simply to have a chat to the Mayor directly.

This week is Part #3 of our ReFORMed series. Last week we looked at the issue of the sovereignty of God, and this week we will look at the application of that to our salvation. We will see how God's gracious sovereignty is at work through the salvation, as he graciously, elects, calls, saves and brings to eternity sinners and rebels. We will look at this through the acronym of TULIP. (And no, its not about dutch flowers).

Think of these questions:

  • What new ministry developments are in the pipeline?
  • How will God's call to be good stewards impact on all this?

These questions and more will be addressed at the Breakfast tomorrow. We ask you to pray today that God will speak as we speak to one another. There's a seat for you, and the food is going to be awesome!

See you all at 8:00am

Breakfast Meeting, This Saturday (Nov 20), 8am

Posted 17 November 2010, 10:20 PM by David Groenenboom. Permalink

Breakfast - you coming?

Hi church,

Just a quick note to remind you of our Church breakfast meeting on this Saturday from 8am. It would be great if all of us could be present as we think and pray through what it means to be a church together, and where God is leading us in the next 10 years and beyond.

Here are some of the main points we're covering

  • RCRC strategic direction over the next 10+ years
    • Church planting
    • Growth and development of the church community
  • Implications of above
    • for facilities
    • for current land holdings: including latest developments
  • New ministry developments for 2011
  • Finances
    • Pass audited financial statements
    • Get an update on our current financial picture

It can be a busy time of year and we appreciate that there are lots of things on, but we consider this to be an important time of community and mission as we think about these matters. Even if you have not been with us that long, please join us. We also would love to see all groups represented.

Food, fellowship, and a celebration of God's wonderful faithfulness! Who can beat that?

It will be so good to share this time together!

Red Frogs Update

Posted 17 November 2010, 2:30 PM by Clinton Berends. Permalink

Redfrogs Thank Thank you to everyone who helped us by buying pancakes last Sunday. Through your generosity we were able to raise over $550. This will go to purchasing about 200 pancake shakers, and leave us with enough money to put on a number of sausage sizzles.

Please pray for the team this week: Derik, Sam, Claudette, James, Chad, Sarah, Mark, Renee, Scott and Clinton. Pray that through their service God will open up opportunities to share the gospel with schoolies. pray for strength, endurance, wisdom and a servant attitude.

Also, remember to pray for Ryan Hemelaar who is doing street evangelism next week as well. Pray that his team will also have open doors to share the gospel.

Some people talk about growth in terms of 'seven quick steps' and failsafe formulas. Paul talks about growth in very different terms. He is so committed to helping people grow that it overflows in nearly everything he writes. It is natural. It is necessary. And it's not easy. So: how can we grow more? What would God have us do? How does this impact on our own lives, or how we help children and young people? How does it influence the kind of church God calls us to build? Here are a couple of passage to read so you'll be best prepared to hear what God says: Eph 1:15-23; Eph 5:14-21; Phil 1:3-11; Col 1:3-14

If meat goes bad, there is no sense in blaming the meat. That is what happens when the bacteria are allowed to breed unchecked.   The question to ask is, "Where is the salt?"  If society becomes corrupt like a dark night or stinking fish, there's no sense in blaming society. That's what happens when fallen human society is left to itself and human evil is unrestrained and unchecked.  The question to ask is "Where is the church?"   In this message Jack De Vries challenges Christ followers to be salt and light.

Red Frogs Special

Posted 10 November 2010, 9:41 AM by Clinton Berends. Permalink

Redfrogs

Next Friday night (19th November), 10 people from Redlands CRC are heading down to the Gold Coast to volunteer their time to be Hotel Chaplains at Australia's biggest party, schoolies week. Called "red frogs" we use Allens Red Frogs, sausage sizzles and Pancake Breakfasts as a way of building relationships with schoolies, and showing them the love of Christ by serving them during the week. We try and make their week as safe as possible.

But we can't do this alone, we need the help of the church. Here are some ways in which you too can get involved.

Pray - please pray for the team, James, Claudette, Sarah, Mark, Sam, Scott, Renee, Chad, Derik and Clinton. Pray for strength, unity, wisdom and patience. During this week, Ryan Hemelaar will be a part of a team doing street evangelism. Please pray for this team also that God would use them.

Donate - This Sunday the team will be cooking and selling pancakes after both the 9am and 5pm services. This is your chance to help support the team. It may be the most you have ever paid for a pancake, but it will be well worth it. This money will go to purchasing Pancake Mix, Red Frogs, and Sausages, which will be used to serve and build relationships with the schoolies. Alternatively, you can drop Shaker Pancake Mixers to Clinton at any time in the next 10 days.

Adopt a Frog - We would love familes, individuals and small groups to consider 'adopt a frog.' If you sign up for this you will be given the name and contact details of one member of the crew, and your role will be to encourage them through txt or email, and pray for them before and during schoolies. If you would like to 'adopt a frog' then please contact Clinton. clinton@redlandscrc.org.au; 0424 477 487.

This Sunday, during both services, you will be introduced to some of the team.

If we believe in Jesus, and read that Bible we would probably all agree with the statement that God is in control. Theologically, we say that God is sovereign - he reigns and rules over all. But how far can we stretch that? Is God still in control when we have a free will? Is God still in control when evil is being done? Is God still in control when Satan is at work? All these and lots more, this Sunday morning.

What does it really mean to glorify God? What difference does it make that God had a plan for us? These are things we often talk about, or even clichés we often use, but do they mean anything to our everyday existence? God does not contemplate a relationship with us that does not lead to change in us and in our world. Read ahead at Col 3:1-17  Preacher: Dave Groenenboom

An opportunity to be part of community discussions

Posted 9 November 2010, 10:20 AM by Margaret Nugent. Permalink

We are invited to join the Redland City Mayor, Melva Hobson, and fellow councillors at the next Redland Conversation, Wednesday 24th November, 2010 from 7.30pm at the Anglican Church Hall, Station Street, Wellington Point.

The Redland Conversations are an opportunity to discuss any local issues with councillors, and are a great chance for us to engage with community on issues that are important to us all. This is a great way for us as a church community to involve ourselves in local and community issues.

Another opportunity is available this Saturday afternoon at the same venue from 2pm to 4pm where Safety in our Community and Homes will be discussed.

Help wanted

One of the Mums in our congregation is moving house on Saturday 13th November. It's a small move in terms of relocation (Wellington Point to Birkdale) but a big one in terms of downsizing and help needed.

If anyone can help on Sat morning the 13th  November could you please let Glenn Williams know. It may be handy if someone is able bring Glenn's trailer along (as he is unable to be there himself on the day).

  • Next week Monday Dave will be travelling to Victoria to assist his mother move into full care. Life has become a little complicated for Dave's parents, Anne & Cor, and the last week has seen them make some very courageous decisions. Thankfully, a care facility is very close to their home in Cobden, and we're very thankful to God that this will help with the transition. Dave plans to be back on Friday.
  • On Nov 20 we'll be sharing breakfast together as we meet for an important meeting. Please plan to be there, encourage your small group to come along, and seek God's wisdom as we all prepare.
