Mid Week News

Posted 7 December 2006, 4:46 PM by Wendy Hammond.

Sunday

9AM: How do we get to Christmas? 4 trips to the shopping mall, 7 visits to Woolworths, 5 end of year functions, 3 Carol Services and 1 packet of Valium? No really. How do we get to Christmas? How do we get to the situation where Almighty God is born as a helpless child in a dingy dirty animal shed? This Sunday morning we will explore Isaiah 49:8-13 and see that there is a lot more going on here than our Christmas cards suggest. That driven by compassion, God is meeting our greatest need. And more... God is continuing to act.

5:30PM: Community Christmas Carols

Free BBQ at 5:30pm

Carols begin at 6:30pm

plus face painting, buskers, supper, dance, drama and more!

for more info-  justask@redlandscrc.org.au  or (Steve) 0433 810 837

Prayer

- Keith Warren as he rests and recovers at home.

- Seek the Lord's blessing on the Community Christmas Carols on Sunday evening. Everyone is encouraged to bring friends and neighbours to this event. Pastor Dave will be speaking at the Redlands Carols in the Park (Capalaba) on Saturday Dec 9 and RCRC people are also presenting a nativity play - please ask that the Gospel will be clearly seen and heard in these contextes.

- Pray for families as they take some time to recreate the family bonds during this holiday time. Pray for times of refreshing and enjoyment, safety and a sure knowledge that God goes with them - even on holidays!

40 days of Community

Posted 5 December 2006, 5:58 PM by Wendy Hammond.

Why COMMUNITY?

Because God says we're better together!!

We all crave a sense that we belong

We all want a church that is open and accepting of others

We all want to reflect the love of Jesus to our local community

But we often ask "Where do we start?"

You are invited to begin a COMMUNITY journey with us.

Beginning Feb ‘07

More details to come...

Where are the frozen chosen when you need them?

Posted 5 December 2006, 12:58 PM by David Groenenboom.

The Fridge…

Unfortunately the Fridge in the kitchen has refused any longer to submit to the leadership of the church, and has checked out permanently, at least in terms of serviceable operation. The church leadership is working on the excommunication process…

Meanwhile, the management committee has been able to arrange a smaller temporary replacement for our busy week and weekend ahead. We still, however, need to organise a permanent replacement.

If anyone in the church community has contacts in commercial refrigeration, please contact Malcolm van Basten on 0416 000 403 or email vanbasten@royalfoods.com.au

Meanwhile, if you have events planned at RCRC in the next weeks that require a lot of fridge space, you may need a contingency plan.

Pastoral Health Update

Posted 4 December 2006, 10:18 PM by David Groenenboom.

Pastoral Health Update

Just letting you all know that Keith Warren returned home from Hospital yesterday (Sunday). It's been great to see how he's recovering, but there's still some distance to go.

Clinton Berends also had a meeting with his oncologist on Friday Dec 01. The good news is that there was no bad news, and that now Clinton needs regular checks every few months. So there's some uncertainty to live with for Clinton, Tracy and the boys.

Good thing there's no uncertainty about God's faithfulness, and his promise to walk with us through it all. Good thing there's no doubt about Jesus' character as Immanuel - God with us. Good thing we never have to doubt his grace and strength to help us in our time of need (see Heb 4:14-16).

Please continue to pray for Keith and Clinton that the Lord will give richly all they and their loved ones require at this time.

eNews Update re Pledges

Posted 30 November 2006, 9:26 PM by David Groenenboom.

Hi church!

I wanted to take this opportunity to give you an update with what’s happening with the decisions we’ve made about the neighbouring properties.

As you know, on November 15 we prayerfully made a commitment to purchase some surrounding properties. Our prayer is that this step will enable us to more effectively work toward our mission and vision for our community.

It’s been great to see some pledge forms coming in – but there’s still a long way to go! So I’m talking this opportunity to encourage you to send yours in (if you’ve already done so, that’s great!).

It’s important that we make a point of expressing our commitment on paper because

·         It’s a concrete expression of our dependence on God. His promise is that if we seek first His kingdom and righteousness, everything else will be added to us as well (Matt 6:33). His call is for us to be sacrificial and generous in our giving: Each one of you should give what you have decided in your heart to give, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver (2 Cor 9:7)

·         It’s a concrete expression of our commitment to the decisions we have taken. The strong vote from two weeks ago needs to be reflected in strong practical support of the step we have taken together. It’s a commitment to the mission God calls us into, that we should be salt and light to the world around us

·         The Christmas agenda will soon dominate our lives – and our budgets. Let’s take a step now to show our priorities, committing our pledges to the Lord as responsible stewards of God’s grace

·         Our bankers want to see a concrete demonstration that the membership of Redlands CRC is solidly behind the step we have taken. This which can only be demonstrated as each individual member shoulders their personal and prayerful commitment

Let’s encourage one another as we embrace the future in confidence and humility. Confidence in God’s promise to give us all we need as we honour our shared obligation. Humility as we move ahead, in the humble recognition that we have been wonderfully blessed! God has poured into our lives ‘talents’ beyond our expectations, and now our privilege is to be courageous stewards of them together.

And God able to bless you abundantly, so that in all things at all times, having all that you need, you will abound in every good work… [2 Cor 9:8]

Our Treasurer, Eddie Bos, is preparing submissions for the bank. Wouldn't it be great for him to enter these discussions with a documented pledge from everyone in the church family!

Please contact Eddie as soon as possible by email, phone or fax to advise him of your pledge. Please mark your correspondence “Confidential” and forward to

Mid Week News

Posted 30 November 2006, 3:33 PM by Wendy Hammond.

Sunday

9AM: 36 six months interest free! You deserve it! Pamper yourself! Drive away, no more to pay! ... hey we've all heard it. Today have to wait for anything. Is it any wonder that we get stressed when life doesn't work out? Jonah knew all about that, but not before becoming a piece of vomit and totally losing perspective. What does Jesus' coming tell us about God's patience, and how can it help us with ours?

Stay behind after the morning service for a sausage sizzle. Bring a dessert to share.

5PM: If you were to start a world changing movement, who would pick to assist you? Probably those with experience, charisma, a proven track record and an undying commitment to see the task done. And so naturally, that is who God would choose. Isn’t it? But when we read the Word we begin to see something different. We see failures, stuff ups and ‘spiritual’ losers being transformed by God for his work of changing the world. So if you think that you life and your past has disqualified you from the grace and the power of God, this Sunday night is for you. If you think that your clean record, your proven faithfulness makes you the ideal candidate, this has something to say to you. Read ahead in Luke 5:1-11 and John 21:1-17.

Prayer

- Keith Warren remains in Greenslopes Private Hospital. He is recovering well, though still under observation. The thought is that he may be able to come home after Saturday. He's in great spirits, and very thankful for the support, encouragement and prayers of the church family

- Clinton visits the oncologist tomorrow (Friday). Please pray for a positive outcome, and that together Clinton and Tracy will know the nearness of the Lord and be strengthened in the belief that He is the Lord of life

- Seek the Lord's blessing on the Community Christmas Carols next week (Sunday Dec 10). This week some 4000 brochures will be distributed, and everyone is encouraged to ask friends and neighbours to this event. Pastor Dave will be speaking at the Redlands Carols in the Park (Capalaba) on Saturday Dec 09, and RCRC people are also presenting a nativity play - please ask that the Gospel will be clearly seen and heard in these contexts.

- Continue to seek God's guidance as you return your pledge forms. Let's show our thanks to God for his wonderful blessing
