RCRC Month of Prayer

June 13 – The Joy of Finding

Read: Matt 13:44-46 "The pearl and the treasure"

Observe: Let’s leave the lost son for a moment, and look at two well known parables. These will provide a backdrop for what happens next between the lost son and the father. We have tended to see the pearl and the treasure as depicting how much people will give for the Kingdom when they realise its worth. On this reading, people will give up everything to be part of the Kingdom. But what if we’re to read this another way? That the man who finds the pearl, and the other man who find the treasure, are really pictures of God, who also gave up everything: His Son, to purchase that which was of inestimable value to him: His people. However we understand it, it’s clear that once people understand the reality of the Gospel, every other joy pales into insignificance. On the second understanding, we see the wonder of Christ, who made himself as nothing in order conquer death for his undeserving people! Both display an urgency and fervour which is rarely seen today.

Is that sparkle in your eye when you dream of the lost finding life and hope in Jesus through Gospel?

Pray:

  • For renewed joy in being used by God to find the lost. Ask him for a sense of excitement, urgency and fervour in our ministry to our community. Pray especially for Brisbane Kids Games, RE and SUPA club as means to open the wonder of grace to others
  • Tonight I heard six people say how much they love the church and want to serve the King with their lives. There is no greater joy in my life as a pastor than to hear words like that, and to see hearts that long for Jesus to be known in his world. God is so good!
  • That our future plans and facilities will have one great focus: to be a beacon of hope for lost sons and daughters
  • Land developments: Lord, please lead us in your way. Have us place our every opportunity into your hands that it may become what you want it to be. You must become greater, we must become less…

June 13 – The Joy of Finding

Read: Luke 15:1-16 "The Lost Son"

Observe: This is a heart rending tale: the son shows total disrespect for his father, he treats all the father’s gifts with contempt, he seeks his inheritance before his time, then he wastes it, and to top it all off, he ends up working one of the most offensive jobs ever. Just when you think it can’t get any worse, his starts longing for the food these filthy animals are eating. Is there a lower low than that?

Is it because we know the end of the story that we are drawn to this lost son? If that’s true, maybe it’s more evidence that we are created as God’s image. He loves the lost because he knows the end of the story. In fact, He is the story. His grace can, and does, transform the most offensive and obnoxious into people who hearts are inclined to praise: loving God and other people. From junk to God’s handiwork.

Do you believe God still works this way? That He can do this work in the lives of those who offend you and show contempt for the things you love?

Pray:

  • That we will be more able to see the world through our redeemer’s eyes, and ‘see’ people as God would have them be in his Son
  • That our future plans and facilities will have one great focus: to be a beacon of hope for lost sons and daughters
  • Land developments: discussions are still at a critical stage. Please pray for patience, and that God’s will might be done. Pray that he will open the doors he wants us to walk through.

Do you know your gifts?

Posted 12 June 2006, 1:55 PM by David Groenenboom.

Discover your gifts and how to use them!

Where do you fit in the body?

What is the best way for you to contribute to the body of Christ?

Do you know that the Holy Spirit has blessed every follower of Jesus enabling them to make unique to the church's calling?

Did you know that when every Christian uses their gifts the church can more effectively fulfil its calling, and we become a better reflection of the maturity to which we are called?

For four Monday nights from June 19 to July 10, RCRC will be running a 'discover your gifts' course. This will help you

  • find your unique combination of gifts
  • locate the area of ministry or service where you will be most effective
  • understand the best way to work with others

A $20.00 donation will cover the cost of your participant's book.

We want to make sure we have enough books to go around, so please register by letting Dave know you're coming: dave@redlandscrc.org.au, 0418 383 055, 3286 4700.

RCRC Month of Prayer

June 12 – The Joy of Finding

Read: Luke 15:1-7 "The Lost Sheep"

Observe: As we read this familiar passage, we should spare a thought – at least this time – for the 99 "found" sheep. What would they have thought? The Shepherd has left them! And for whom? Someone who should have known better. Someone who has not respected those who remain. Someone who no doubt made a series of stupid decisions. Now time has to be wasted looking for this straying sheep! (Are we irritated yet?)

Do you think that’s what the shepherd thought and felt? All we know about the shepherd is that the lost sheep mattered to him! And when he found that sheep all he wants to do is celebrate!

This week we’re thinking about the joy of finding the lost. The work is labour intensive, and sometimes the "found" might feel a bit neglected. But the lost matter, and we’re called to follow the Saviour, and seek their rescue.

Pray:

  • That we’ll make courageous decisions about ordering our priorities toward a ministry that seeks the lost
  • Ask the Lord for protection and discernment for the Church Council as they lead us into new work and an outside focus
  • Ask the Lord to raise up people from our church family who will give their time and energy to a ministry of outreach and evangelism. Ask the Lord of harvest to send forth workers into his harvest field.
  • Land developments: discussions are still at a critical stage. Please pray for patience, and that God’s will might be done. Pray that he will open the doors he wants us to walk through.

RCRC Emails

Posted 12 June 2006, 6:36 AM by David Groenenboom.

Please bear with us...

Dear friends, just a quick note to apologise for the occasional glitches that seem to confuse some of our email posts with compressed and impossible-to-read lines. We're not entirely sure why this happens, and the last thing we want to do is fill your Inbox with emails that are illegible. We're looking for ways to avoid this in the future, but it may just take a little time. Please be patient.

Rich blessings,

Dave

PS. Having said that, I am just about to try and send today's Month of Prayer email again...

June 11 – The Lost

Read: Luke 19:1-10 Seek and save the lost

Observe: Zacchaeus was despised by his own people. Too friendly with the enemy. Too sly to be trusted. A loser. A lost cause. But not to Jesus: He came for the broken, the straying, the confused, the rejected. Such people, by grace, become the theatre of God’s transforming grace. Can you imagine the wonderful outcome of God’s grace in the people we regard as losers?

Pray:

·         Jesus came to seek the lost. Pray that we might also seek them. Think of “lost” people you know, who need God’s love, grace, and forgiveness. Bring them to his throne of grace.

·         Jesus came to save the lost. Pray we will move out of our comfort zones, and that our words and actions will be used by God to reflect the rescue won by Jesus in the Cross

·         Land developments: discussions are still at a critical stage. Please pray for patience (i.e. ours), and that God’s will might be done. Pray that he will open the doors he wants us to walk through.
