Sunday 9am

Posted 13 April 2010, 10:44 AM by Margaret Nugent. Permalink

So God announces his blessing through Jesus' sermon on the mount. How does that work? Does God bring his blessing to the world only through Jesus' followers? What does that mean for how we are called to follow Jesus in our part of the world?

Preacher: Dave Groenenboom

Sunday 5pm

Posted 13 April 2010, 9:18 AM by Margaret Nugent. Permalink

I wonder if you have ever asked yourself "Am I really a Christian?" I am guessing that the question has been posed by all of us, myself included. There are lots of things that can cause us to doubt, but my guess is that it always comes when we are looking to and relying on ourselves. As a follow up to the Sermon on the Mount, someone posed the question "How do we know we are on the right track?" and so to answer that we want to have a look at 1 John 4:13-21 and see that God given assurance comes exactly as it says - from God, and his love for us, as it works through our lives. Preacher: Clinton Berends Bible text: . 1 John 4:13-21

Alpha - Who have you invited?

Posted 13 April 2010, 8:44 AM by Clinton Berends. Permalink

Next week we will be starting a number of Alpha Small Groups. These groups will be covering the Alpha material; a straightfoward, easily understood presentation of Jesus, his work and what it means to be his follower.

WHO HAVE YOU INVITED?

There are people we come in contact with every day who need to hear this life saving and life changing message. People that you and I have been praying for. Praying for an opportunity to speak or invite. Maybe today is that opportunity.

WHAT IS THE WORST THAT CAN HAPPEN?

So maybe someone says "no" OK, its not easy to hear that, but its not the end of the world. But what if they say "yes"... Just imagine where that could go.

I encourage you to firstly pray. Pray for God's Spirit to be at work, pray for people to be open and receptive, pray for the gospel to change lives.

And then I encourage you to take a boold step of faith and invite. Don't worry about how you might put it, that you might stumble over your words, or make a meal of it. God's bigger than our words, his power is made perfect in our weakness.

If you want to sign up, or sign someone else up, please contact Clinton, or the church office.

Monday Mailbox: See you Sunday...

Posted 12 April 2010, 10:23 AM by David Groenenboom. Permalink

GlorifyAre you planning to come this Sunday?

Given that we are about glorifying God, I want to encourage you to place it on the top of your agenda.

The reason? Worship is about God. Who we are, or what we want, are not the most important questions when it comes to worship. The focus is that God is good. God is great. God is gracious. God loves our world. God gave us Jesus. Do we need any other reasons?

An old confession of the church says our chief purpose as men and women is to glorify God and enjoy him forever. Gathering on Sunday is one of the best ways to express this.

Sure, we are all busy. Every day is another juggle of work, family, and everything else.

God, however, is not one of many. He is the centre of our life. He is our all.

He created you to worship Him.

So, right now, can I encourage you to get out your diary and write "Glorify" on Sunday. Attend the 9am or 5pm gathering. Renew your commitment to worship. Honour the God who has given you life, and come, with all his people, to celebrate his goodness.

See you Sunday!

In your prayers...

Please remember Warwick and Fran Anderson, who live in Wellington Point. Warwick and Fran have been to Redlands CRC on occasions. Their daughter, Loren Jenkins (23yrs), was killed when her car rolled against her earlier this week. Ask that God's grace and nearness will give them strength and hope in their time of grief.

Please also remember the Kapinga family. Mrs Diny Kapinga is now receiving palliative care, and she remains in Mater Private. Pray that our gracious God will sustain and strengthen the family in this difficult time.

Twenty20 Cricket

Posted 7 April 2010, 7:51 PM by David Groenenboom. Permalink

Don't miss out on this great opportunity to have a laugh on the cricket pitch with your church family. Twenty20 is back! For the past 4 years, RCRC has entered a side in a local church cricket competition based right here in the Redlands. This is a 10 week season designed to develop relationships and have a good game of cricket at the same time. Games go for 3 hours and are held on a Saturday afternoon. This year, the breaking news is that there will be 2 or 3 Saturday night games to make it even more interesting!

It's an all ages competition and costs about $10 per week. If you're interested, email josh@royalfoods.com.au

Psalm 98
Sing a new song to the Lord telling about his mighty deeds!
The whole earth has seen God's salvation of his people.
That is why the earth breaks out in praise to God and sings for utter joy!

Sing your praise accompanied by music from the harp.
Let the cornets and trumpets shout! Make a joyful symphony before the Lord, the King!
Let the sea in all its vastness roar with praise! Let the earth and all those living on it shout, "Glory to the Lord."

Let the waves clap their hands in glee and the hills sing out their songs of joy before the Lord,
for he is coming to judge the world with perfect justice.

(from 'The Living Bible')

MORE NEEDS FOR BURMA (SUNGLASSES and GLASSES)

Posted 7 April 2010, 9:03 AM by Margaret Nugent. Permalink

Sunday the 18th April will be the last Sunday before the team of ten people leave for the Orphanage in Burma.

We have been overwhelmed by the quality and quantity of the things donated. Thanks especially to the generous givers who have gone out and bought brand new shorts, t-shirts, undies, babies clothes etc. The children will be so grateful and cherish what will be given to them once it has been dealt out.

We would also like to be able to take in any second hand reading glasses as well as sunglasses, especially for those people who are working on the rice paddy.

Please check your drawers for any glasses you no longer use and these will be put to good use you can be certain of that.

Through his death and resurrection, Jesus Christ came from heaven to earth to restore our broken relationship with God and to give us life, life to the full. This is the good news that we have heard. But it is old. It is about 2000 years old! Apart from this, it seems that most of the world around us seems to think it is not true. Do I have reason to doubt? So what if I do find myself heavily in doubt of the message of Jesus? We find that in the book of Hebrews, God gives us some comforting and valuable words about persevering in lives of faith.  Read Hebrews 10:35-39

Can you help?

Posted 6 April 2010, 7:26 PM by David Groenenboom. Permalink

Ex-Service Personnel?

Pastor Dave is interested in speaking with anyone who has served in the armed forces. In particular, this is for preparations we are making for Anzac Day. If you've had any service experience, please let Dave know: dave@redlandscrc.org.au

Relay for Life

We've also been approached by Cr Wendy Boglary to see if Redlands CRC would like to enter a team in this year's Relay for Life. This is a great fundraiser for cancer research, and given our recent experiences, it is no doubt something that is close to the heart of many. There may be a small coordination task involved - wouldn't it be great to serve others and thank God in this way?

If you're interested, Dave is the one to speak to dave@redlandscrc.org.au This year's Relay for Life will be held at Cleveland Showground on May 8/9 (also see p.10 of this week's Bayside Bulletin).

Easter Services at RCRC

Posted 1 April 2010, 2:53 PM by David Groenenboom. Permalink

This weekend's services will be held on Friday 9am and Sunday 9am. They will be great opportunities to worship at RCRC. They will be great services to bring family and friends to, and wonderful opportunities to hear the good news about Jesus.

We encourage everyone in the RCRC family to recommit to glorifying God in weekly worship. Life is busy, and there are many demands on our agenda. We can sometimes feel guilty about not being regular attenders. God, however, is in the business of dealing with guilt through Jesus and drawing people into worshipping him.

So this weekend, let's glorify him and together declare our love for Jesus who gave his life for us! What a celebration this will be!

Over recent years, Good Friday and Easter Sunday have seen high attendance. So plan to come early!
If you have questions, please email me

Here's an update on the Chaplaincy work we support at Ormiston State School. It's great to see the work God is doing there through Melody Groenenboom who is Chaplain there 3 days per week.

In your prayers

Posted 31 March 2010, 3:52 PM by David Groenenboom. Permalink

Please keep the following in your prayers over the next week:

  • Redlands Easter Family Festival - this will be held at Cleveland Showgrounds on Sunday from 4pm-8pm. Pray that the message of Jesus will be clear, and the love of Jesus found in the service offered by the volunteers. God loves this city, and it's great that we can support this wonderful effort
  • The Kapinga family: Diny Kapinga is still in Mater Private, her condition changing from day to day. John is in high care at Prins Willem. This is a hard time for John & Diny, and their family. Please continue to pray for endurance and strength
  • Lots of poeple travel over the coming weekend. If this is you, make sure your driving is the sort that honours God and is courteous to others. Make sure you rest enough. Pray that all travellers will be safe this weekend, and that Qld will be free from fatalities
  • We're still looking for a buyer for Boundary Rd. We are in the hands of God, and we trust that he will provide the right buyer in His time. Pray that this may be soon, allowing us to move ahead in other areas

Good Friday 9am

Posted 31 March 2010, 3:40 PM by David Groenenboom. Permalink

Feeling distant from God? Many people look at their lives and behaviour, and wonder why God would want anything to do with them. This Friday, however, we will hear the best news ever! We'll see what God has done to remove every barrier that might come between us and God. It's gpoing to be a great time of praise, and being Good Friday, there will always be a few special things going on. We'll be celebrating the Lord's Supper, and finding in it a powerful assurance of the greatest act of love ever given. Read ahead at Matt 27:11-61

Burma Progressive Dinner Postponed

Posted 31 March 2010, 1:59 PM by David Groenenboom. Permalink

Sadly, the Progressive Dinner planned for Saturday April 10 has been postponed.

While Janette and Frank are so very thankful for the strong support with the Dinner, the situation with Mrs Diny Kapinga is placing additional pressure on them. They thought the church would be understanding at this time, and allow them to postpone the event.

The Dinner will be moved to new date in May or June, and we'll be sure to give you plenty of notice as to when it will be.

Special thanks to everyone for their patience, for their support and their prayers at this time. Thanks for being such a supportive church, not only for the wider Kapinga family at this time, but also for the children in Burma.

We'll keep you posted...

9am Sunday

Posted 30 March 2010, 11:46 AM by Margaret Nugent. Permalink

Why Easter Sunday, why the resurrection? All of the 'meaty' important theological stuff seems to have happened on Good Friday when Jesus died, and we might be left wondering whether it was really important that Jesus rose again. But throughout the Bible, when it speaks of Jesus dying - his rising is always there, and we often see two important reactions - peace and mission. This Easter Sunday, as we celebrate and remember the resurrection of Jesus, we will have our joy and our lives shaped by John 20:19-23.

Update on Mrs Diny Kapinga

Posted 25 March 2010, 2:50 PM by David Groenenboom. Permalink

This afternoon I received the following note from Janette Hemelaar about Mrs Diny Kapinga. Diny is married to John, who is often seated up the front of the audiotium in a wheelchair at Sunday meetings. Diny and John are the parents of Ruth Tenni and Janette Hemelaar.

Updating the eNews earlier this week, Janette writes,

Sadly, mum has been diagnosed with Acute Myeloid Leukemia which is a very serious form of cancer especially for someone 87 years old. She is requiring blood transfusions daily and some oral treatment just to help her feel more comfortable. She will be staying at Mater Private Hospital until her condition shows signs of major improvement or until the Lord takes her home. She is very weak and frail and it is recommended that visits be limited to family members at this stage. However, cards and words of encouragement are most welcome and can be sent to Diny Kapinga, Room 873 8th Floor South, Mater Private Hospital, Vulture Street, Woollongabba. John is also struggling with his health but is aware of the situation with Diny. It's a tough time, but we certainly all know the grace of God and His perfect plan.

Please do pray for God's grace and strength for the family. This news is very sudden and the condition is quite serious. Let's uphold these loved ones in the days ahead. Let's also pray that Diny will know the grace and nearness of the Saviour.

As this will be quite a busy time, Janette suggests that instead of phoning you make contact via email to Jannete and Frank (janette@royalfoods.com.au or hemelaar@royalfoods.com.au) and/or to Ruth & Greg Tenni (ruth@tenni.id.au).

Remember in Prayer

Posted 24 March 2010, 1:55 PM by Clinton Berends. Permalink

* In the last few days Deny Kapinga (Ruth Tenni and Janette Hemelaar's mother) was admitted to Mater Private hospital with some serious symptoms. Tests are being conducted at the moment, so please pray for Deny and John, and the rest of the family, that they may know God's comfort and grace at this time.

* Let's continue to thank God for the great news Fred and Carol Bottema received last week concerning Carol's cancer. Let's also pray that God continues to work as she finishes off her treatment.

* Please pray for wisdom and guidance as the Church Council seeks to find a replacement elder and some new deacons.

* Continue to pray that God would provide a buyer for the Boundary Rd property

CLEANLINESS!

Just a reminder to all Ministry Leaders and those who use the church during the week or weekend. Please remember to make sure that you leave the church, and all the rooms,  in the condition they were in when you arrived. We employ cleaners who come in once a week, usually on a Saturday morning, so if an event takes place after they have been, then it is up to those who are using the facilities to make sure that they are ready for Sunday. Thanks for your cooperation, The Committee of Management.

Sunday 9am and 5pm

Posted 23 March 2010, 12:43 PM by Margaret Nugent. Permalink

Easter is a time that we associate with buns and bunnies, hot crosses and chocolates. Christmas is when we are thinking about gifts. But this Easter we want to think about two incredible gifts. Firstly, what Jesus has given us, in his dying and rising, and secondly, what we can give to him in the extravagance of our worship. Read ahead in John 12:1-8.
