Easter Sunday Service
Traditionally, Easter Sunday is celebrated to remember the resurrection of Jesus Christ. It is this resurrected Jesus who builds his kingdom of followers on earth. Yet today we find that very few people actually celebrate Easter for this reason. It seems to be only Christians-a very small minority of people in our country-who actually believe in this strange idea of a resurrected Jesus who builds his kingdom of people in our world when most people seem to settle for an historical Jesus who was murdered 2000 years ago, full stop. This brings Christians to face some real tough questions: ‘did Jesus really rise from the dead?' and ‘if he did and is indeed alive and extending his kingdom on earth, why is the church so small?'It brings those who don't believe in the resurrection or the kingdom to ask: ‘do Christians have a point?'; ‘is there more to Easter than we thought?' This Sunday morning we'll look at some answers.

CRCR Prayer Calender
Prayer changes things. If we believe this, then we had better be praying that God will change the eternal destiny of our neighbours and country. In the 50 days leading up to Pentecost, church and individuals are encouraged to pray for the work of the Gospel in Australia and beyond. To assist individuals and churches to focus their prayers in the days leading up to Pentecost, a "Prayer Calendar" (Please click on link) has been put together beginning with Easter Monday and ending on Pentecost. The prayer items highlight the work of the gospel throughout Australia and beyond.
MISSION OPPORTUNITIES - SOLOMON ISLANDS
MISSION OPPORTUNITIES - SOLOMON ISLANDS
1. SEWING WORKSHOP - WEST RUSSEL ISLANDS. 2nd Week of August 2011 (7th to 16th August). The Russel Islands group is about 5 hours by ship North West of Honiara. There is a Wycliffe translation worker (Aaron Choate) and his family in this village who have requested a workshop for the women in that district. The team leader will be Marty Magill, an experienced SWIM team leader. Marty would like about 4 women to assist her with the workshop. Basic sewing knowledge is all that is required, as we will be teaching only basic sewing. Accommodation will be in the village. Russell Islands are a small group of spectacular tropical islands. We shall take along some new Singer hand sewing machines and leave them with the women there. Women of any age are welcome to apply. This is a practical, grass roots way of sharing your skills with women from another culture. You will be challenged spiritually through this experience. Age is no limit, just a willing heart for mission, and a desire to "step out" and make a difference in God's Kingdom. Contact Machi at SWIM - details below.
2. YOUTH MISSION - WEST RUSSEL ISLANDS - 2nd Week of August 2011 (7th to 16th August). At the same time as the sewing workshop, Aaron Choate has also requested a mission team to do some "Youth Outreach" for youth in that area. This would involve afternoon and evening sessions. The program will depend on the skills of the team, eg music, sport, drama, Bible studies, youth rally. Anything along these lines would be greatly appreciated. There are many youth in this area who have little direction in their life, and who need to be challenged with the Gospel. No experience is necessary, but anyone with a heart for youth, or music or drama skills is sure to have a memorable and life changing experience. The duration of the program is envisaged to be about 4 or 5 days. Afternoons for younger youth, evenings for older youth. Contact Machi at SWIM - details below.
3. SPONSORSHIP NEEDED FOR SEVERAL SCHOOL STUDENTS. - We have several opportunities for you to help sponsor a student. Ages of Students range from Prep. To TAFE level. One young woman, Judith, studying for teaching, is a very promising student, but she needs assistance. For further details on her needs please contact SWIM. Seven other students are from prep to class 3. To sponsor one of these children it costs just $50 AUD per year, per child. Contact the number below for more information.

Good Friday Service
Did anyone really know on that first Good Friday, what was going on? Did people understand the significance of Jesus’ death on the cross? While at the time it might not have been clear, God left some pretty powerful signs for the world that this death was more than just an ‘injustice’ or a ‘mistake’ – it was in fact God’s work of making everything new, a new relationship with him, and a new way of life and living. The great news of Easter is that God is still about that work, and calls us to still come to him to be made new once again.

Congregational Meeting
The Church Council is calling the church to attend a Congregational Meeting on Wednesday May 4th, from 7.30pm.
At this meeting we will be discussing the future of the church, leadership, finances and property. We also hope to have a time of communal prayer for the church.
Our desire is to hold monthly Congregational Meetings on the first Wednesday of each month while we move forward together in unity. So please put these in your diary.
There will also be an opportunity to ask questions on the night. Our preference would be to have questions handed to Church Council before the meeting so that we can adequately answer them. While there will be time to ask additional questions on the night, we ask the church to understand that we might need to get back to them with fuller answers at a later date.
Redlands Eastr Family Festival - Fair Trade
We would love to have a stall set up at the Redlands Easter Family Festival to promote Redlands Fair Trade (formally Global Marked Day). This stall will have a display of Fair Trade products and information about our "Trade Day" in September. We need volunteers to help set up and man the store.
If you can be available any time between 3-8ppm Easter Sunday to help, please contact Melody G. mgroenen@gmail.com 0431 144 126, or after either service on Sunday.
Easter Sunday Night
Because of the Redlands Easter Family Festival and our encouragement for you to volunteer or attend this event, we will not be having a 5PM service on Easter Sunday night. Please use this time to help out at the festival and stay for the service at the end.
Classis Meeting - this Friday Night
This Friday night will be a special classis meeting, called to discuss, give input and ratify the decisions made by Church Council in recent weeks.
As Redlands Christian Reformed Church we are part of Classis Queensland. This is made up of the 8 churches in and around Brisbane. As a classis we usually met together 4 times a year to encourage each other, hold one another accountable, and to discuss matters of mutual significance. Each church is represented by 3 delegates from Church Council, elders and ministers.
At this Classis meeting we will also have present 2 Synodical Deputies. These are ministers appointed by the denomination, from a neigboring Classis. In this case we have 2 representatives from Classis NSW.
This meeting is about holding the Church Council accountable for the decisions that have been made, and the Church Visitors accountable for the advice that they have given. At this time, with reports from both the Church Visitors and our Church Council, the classis will be seeking to see that the Church Council has followed good and proper process and been fair in its dealings and decisions.
It is a good thing for us to have this level of support and accountability, and we welcome this process to also provide additional insight and clarity in our situation.
We would value your ongoing prayer at this time and on into the future. If you have any further questions please feel free to contact Clinton.

Sunday - 9AM
It's pretty fair to say that we don't think much about royalty in our day. Sure, there is a bit of hype around an upcoming royal wedding, but royalties impact on our daily life is quite insignificant. But this wasn't the case in the time of the New Testament, in fact for much of the world's history, in most places around the world, your king, or leader had the biggest singular impact on your life. And so when Jesus comes riding into Jerusalem on a donkey, fulfilling an old prophesy about God's coming king and the coming reign of peace and blessing, its no wonder the people get excited. If God's king is here, then surely everything is about to change. But then something goes horribly wrong. Instead of going to the palace, the king goes to the temple. Something is up. Find out this Sunday morning.

Sunday - 5PM
Whenever the queen visits Australia, many of us may wonder: 'what's it like living in a kingdom?' or 'what's it like having a king?' It's something we Aussies are not really familiar with, are we? In fact, most Aussies probably dread the idea of living under a king. We find, however, that Easter - a tradition that we all love to celebrate - has very much to do with the coming of a kingdom into our world. Easter celebrates the coming of the kingdom of God into our world. Now the mention of the words 'kingdom of God' sparks many questions in our heads: 'what is the kingdom of God?' We wonder what it's like, where it came from and where it is. We wonder who rules it and we may even wonder how does one enter and live in it. Tonight we'll learn more about what the Bible has to say about this kingdom of God.

Chaplaincy needs your statement of support
A note from all Chaplains....
A High Court Challenge Threatens Chaplaincy
Can I encourage you to complete a statement of support?
The Case
A Toowoomba man - backed by the Australian Secular Lobby - has served a write in the High Court of Australia opposing the Commonwealth funding of chaplains in state schools. The defendants in this case are the Commonwealth and SU QLD (Scripture Union Queensland) - the accredited employing authority for school chaplains in Queensland.
This High Court challenge threatens the future of more than 2500 school chaplains across Australia.
And it will have a direct impact on the care of kids in schools!
Please go to http://saveourchaplains.com.au to complete your statement of support for the Chaplains.

Lord's Supper
This month we will be celebrating Lord's Supper on Easter Sunday (24th), rather than our usual second Sunday of the month.
Prayer Points
Please continue to uphold Stu and Alicia Black in your prayers. This last week Alicia was diagnosed with breast cancer. We are thankful that it appears to be caught early, and is non-aggressive, and also that she has managed to see an oncologist so quickly. But still pray that God brings her complete healing, and provides them with comfort and hope during this time.
Continue to pray for others with long term illnesses. Pray for Carol Bottema and her ongoing cancer treatment and recovery, Bev Bird as she recovers from a virus, as well as the many elderly in our church.
Remember to uphold Steve Schefe in your prayers as he seeks to find a new job. Pray that God will provide this employment and give patience while he and the family waits.
Please continue to pray for Dave and Leonie and the family as they come to terms with the events of the past weeks. Thank God for their trust in Him and their desire to be a blessing to God's church. Pray that God continues to provide for their needs and lead them in the future.
Let's always remember to pray for one another and the church as Christ's body. Pray that God would heal and unite us, give us a clear sense of his presence and plan, as he fixes our hearts, eyes and minds on Him.
Sunday - 5PM
Have you ever wondered what was going through the minds of those witnessing Jesus in the week prior to his crucifixion? Imagine you were in the crowd? You heard Pilate question Jesus and debate with the chief priests and elders. What would you be thinking? What would you have said had you been asked for an opinion?
In the crowd were people whom we would identify with. Whether you're a sceptic or convinced that Jesus was the Son of God - confusion ruled and mob rule seemed to determine the verdict. Imagine if someone in the crowd had taken a stand and said: People of conviction, listen to Pilate, answer his question: What has Jesus done to deserve this (v.23)?
We all stand this side of the Cross and have His Word explaining why Jesus went to the Cross. In God's plan to redeem humanity, Jesus took the punishment for sin. Salvation is given.
Let me ask this question: People of conviction, how are we to respond? What does Jesus expect from us?
(This Sunday evening we have John Hoogenhout, pastor from Bray Park Community Church, preaching. Thanks John!)
Sunday - 9AM
Throughout the sermons in Acts we saw a common teaching that Jesus suffered and died at the hands of evil men, but also according to the plan of God. But why was it so necessary for Jesus to die, couldn't God have just waved a magic wand? This Sunday we start heading towards Easter with our focus on the events around the death and resurrection of Jesus. We start this week by looking at Matthew 26:36-46 and Jesus' willing submission to the 'cup' of suffering.
Please Pray
Dear church, please pray for Alicia and Stu Black and their family. Today Alicia was diagnosed with breast cancer. Obviously this is quite a shock for them. While at this stage it appears that it has been caught early, and we thank God for that, we know that ultimately they are in the hands of the Great Healer, who also watches over them and cares for them. Please pray as Alicia has an appointment with a specialist on Thursday this week.
(Stu and Alicia and the girls are part of 3PC community - so remember to uphold the whole community as they seek to care for them)
