Its one thing for Jesus to pick on adultery and murder and swearing. We expect him to say something about these things, and challenge us to live more fully in his ways in the world. But surely he can leave the good that we do alone, surely there is no need to go putting our giving, our prayers and our fasting under the microscope? But that is exactly what Jesus does in Matthew 6:1-18, because he knows the sorry state of our hearts and he knows we will look for an idol wherever we can find it, even if its in 'doing good.' And this week Jesus is going to expose our 'good deeds,' refine them, and refine us, as he goes about using us as salt and light in his world.

Matthew 6:1-18
