Following Jesus in a Hostile World

Posted 26 April 2010, 10:04 AM by David Groenenboom. Permalink

Next Sunday we start a new AM teaching series, working through 1 Peter, called 'Following Jesus in a Hostile World'. Peter wrote his first letter to encourage Christians who were doing it tough, or having tough done to them. They were under increasing pressure to abandon their faith. The challenges were coming from culture, organised persecution, and various other quarters.

How would they cope?

How could their faith survive?

Would the church withstand the onslaught?

We today are as concerned about our struggles as Jesus' followers were then. We feel concern for the church and we worry about the world our kids will inherit. Peter's words are as timely for our day as for then.

Prepare:

  1. Start reading through 1 Peter. Try to do this once a week for the duration of the series
  2. Pray that God will open our eyes to the Gospel's call and comfort

Coming Sunday: we're looking at 1 Peter 1:1-12, and May 16 we'll be continuing with the series (May 09 is Mothers Day).

Small groups: study questions can be supplied for your group. Email me if you're interested.
