You... The Mentor

Posted 30 June 2010, 9:21 AM by Margaret Nugent. Permalink

We have all heard the phrase that we are about nurturing people to maturity here at Redlands CRC. With that in mind, it would be great to start some intentional mentoring relationships get under way. This does not need to be too complicated: simply some ongoing relationships where someone can walk with another in life and what it means to follow Jesus. This would be a great way to bridge some generational divides, and to bring people together who ordinarily may not connect that often.

Why raise this now? In recent months a few people have said that they would love to have a mentor. It would be great if we could provide some!

You may wonder whether you've got what it takes: whether you know enough. Really, 'knowing the answers' is not as important as 'asking the right questions' and 'being a great listener' - and we may be able to help with that. It would involve partnering with someone of the same gender, meeting every couple of weeks (whatever works best), working through a basic plan, and some prayer together.

So here's the deal: if you're interested in exploring mentoring, there is a sign up sheet in the foyer of the church, also, please let me know. And if you're interested in being mentored, let me know. We'll provide some orientation, ongoing support, and resourcing for mentors. We'll also stay in touch with those mentored to ensure it's all working well. It could open up some wonderful contexts of grace and growth! Even if you're unsure, please let me know, and we can talk about it.
