The Prodigal God (1) Our Problem with Familiarity. They say familiarity breeds contempt, and while I don't know too many people who look at the parable of the prodigal son with contempt, it's probably true that we all come to this passage with preconceived understandings of what it's all about. Even the title we give to Luke 15:11-32 tells us something... So this Sunday we want to understand the key characters and contrasts in Jesus' parable. As we go through this series, we'll find that some, maybe many, of the ideas we have about what sin is, about how we come to God, and the nature of obedience will be challenged. It's a guess, but I wonder if we will all leave this series challenged by our Father and his commitment to our rescue and restoration.
