Month of Prayer: June 12 – The Joy of Finding
Read: Luke 15:1-7 “The Lost Sheep”
Observe: As we read this familiar passage, we should spare a thought – at least this time – for the 99 “found” sheep. What would they have thought? The Shepherd has left them! And for whom? Someone who should have known better. Someone who has not respected those who remain. Someone who no doubt made a series of stupid decisions. Now time has to be wasted looking for this straying sheep! (Are we irritated yet?)
Do you think that’s what the shepherd thought and felt? All we know about the shepherd is that the lost sheep mattered to him! And when he found that sheep all he wants to do is celebrate!
This week we’re thinking about the joy of finding the lost. The work is labour intensive, and sometimes the “found” might feel a bit neglected. But the lost matter, and we’re called to follow the Saviour, and seek their rescue.Pray:
- That we’ll make courageous decisions about ordering our priorities toward a ministry that seeks the lost
- Ask the Lord for protection and discernment for the Church Council as they lead us into new work and an outside focus
- Ask the Lord to raise up people from our church family who will give their time and energy to a ministry of outreach and evangelism. Ask the Lord of harvest to send forth workers into his harvest field.
- Land developments: discussions are still at a critical stage. Please pray for patience, and that God’s will might be done. Pray that he will open the doors he wants us to walk through.
