RCRC Month of Prayer
June 13 – The Joy of Finding
Read: Matt 13:44-46 "The pearl and the treasure"
Observe: Let’s leave the lost son for a moment, and look at two well known parables. These will provide a backdrop for what happens next between the lost son and the father. We have tended to see the pearl and the treasure as depicting how much people will give for the Kingdom when they realise its worth. On this reading, people will give up everything to be part of the Kingdom. But what if we’re to read this another way? That the man who finds the pearl, and the other man who find the treasure, are really pictures of God, who also gave up everything: His Son, to purchase that which was of inestimable value to him: His people. However we understand it, it’s clear that once people understand the reality of the Gospel, every other joy pales into insignificance. On the second understanding, we see the wonder of Christ, who made himself as nothing in order conquer death for his undeserving people! Both display an urgency and fervour which is rarely seen today.
Is that sparkle in your eye when you dream of the lost finding life and hope in Jesus through Gospel?
Pray:
- For renewed joy in being used by God to find the lost. Ask him for a sense of excitement, urgency and fervour in our ministry to our community. Pray especially for Brisbane Kids Games, RE and SUPA club as means to open the wonder of grace to others
- Tonight I heard six people say how much they love the church and want to serve the King with their lives. There is no greater joy in my life as a pastor than to hear words like that, and to see hearts that long for Jesus to be known in his world. God is so good!
- That our future plans and facilities will have one great focus: to be a beacon of hope for lost sons and daughters
- Land developments: Lord, please lead us in your way. Have us place our every opportunity into your hands that it may become what you want it to be. You must become greater, we must become less…
