This Sunday

AM: We talk a lot about strength in our society. We talk about shows of strength, strength of character, physical strength, and much more. And there is this temptation to think about our faith in the same way – a bout a strong faith, a strong character, a strong conviction. But what happens when the central symbol of our faith is a man being crucified on the cross, the ultimate symbol of weakness? Does faith, life and character look somewhat different? This weak we are going to look of 1 Corinthians 1:26-31 – words written to a church that was all about strength – but Paul has something  different to say.

PM: "God goes to the cemetery..." Ever been in a situation when you've been totally bereft of hope? When all you meet is brick walls? Our world is full of those situations: they are disheartening and dispiriting times. What happens when God enters situations like that? Read ahead at Ezek 37:1-14

Brisbane Kids Games Closing Ceremony will take place from 1-3pm this Sunday afternoon at the RNA Showgrounds. Parents are invited to bring their children along to collect their Gold Medals and participate in some of the activities. Either you can drive yourselves (please be there between 12-12.30pm, parking cost $5 per car), or we will be taking the train. The train cost is $3.50 per person (return). But this only applies if you are on the 10:39am train from Ormiston Station. We will issue our own ‘tickets’ on the train.

Please note that there is no food or drink on sale at the Closing Ceremony, so you might want to pack a lunch.

Opportunity for further giving for Indonesian Earthquake Victims: July 9

Many of us were able to form warm ties with the Indonesian visitors who stayed with us during the Synod in May. Church Council has been encouraged that people are looking for more ways to express their solidarity with those whose livelihoods have been so tragically impacted by this disaster. So in addition to the money already raised, a further opportunity will be given to donate via specially marked envelopes on Sunday July 9. In addition to this, a further amount of $3000 will be set aside from RCRC's income tithe. These extra funds will be channelled to the Javanese Christian Churches via their aid wing, who will then distribute these gifts for maximum impact. None of the monies given will be used for administration. Please prayerfully consider this opportunity, and give generously on July 9.
