Great Music this Saturday, 7:30pm

Coming Saturday night the Redlands Big Band and New Day Singers will be playing at RCRC. Sunday

9am: When we think of idols, either we focus on Sunday night TV talent competitions, or things of stone and wood worshipped by natives. Neither, of course, bear any resemblance to anything important or realistic. So what are our idols? Hmmm. You may be surprised... Whatever your answer Paul wants us to know that idols are regarded as such because they displace our trust in Christ alone. The ability of people today to believe the lie shows our similarity with people all through the ages: the Christians in Colossae being no exception.

5pm: What does God want from my life? What does God want from this church? We find ourselves asking those questions from time to time, the big questions of life and purpose. This Sunday as we continue to look at the life of Jacob we will see what God was wanting from Jacob, what he was doing with him - and what he is still wanting from, and doing in his church today... breaking and remaking. Read ahead in Genesis 29-32

Discovery Service: June 17, 9am (only) "Too much to carry...?"

It's amazing that in a country where there is so much freedom that people can experience such heavy burdens. Like, they are stuck in a rut and they can't get out. The weight of living can be incredibly heavy. Unbearable, even. In the NT world, the great gods were Rome's peace and prosperity and the religious power typified by Judaism. Neither of these gods brought freedom. Nor do the gods of today. They only freedom worth considering is the freedom Jesus brings. This service will especially be for your friends and family who do not know Jesus. On Sunday everyone will receive small invitations to pass on to others: please use them liberally. Please also pray that God will call people to himself through this service.

Breakfast meeting: June 23

You're invited to another RCRC Happy Meal! We will get together for a breakfast meeting on June 23! We'll be discussing

  • Latest developments in the building program. The committee will be presenting options to the congregation before the meeting. These options will outline the nest recommended stage of development for the facilities at RCRC.
  • Leadership Structure: Sometimes people ask ‘what do the elders do here?' - the new leadership structure has enabled us to refocus the elder's role in a way which we believe will benefit ministry at RCRC. We'd love to be able to tell you more about it

Sunday AM services

For all who are looking around and seeing a lot more empty seats in the AM service, Church Council would like you to know that everything is fine - we planned it this way. A number of people have followed Church Council's advice and moved to the PM service. This has had the desired effect of making places available in the AM service. So, friends, it's all good.

But to avoid lots of gaps in that centre block, we would encourage everyone coming to the AM service to fill the seats in the centre block first. So, even if you normally sit ‘in the wings', we'd encourage you to take the much more comfortable seats in the centre instead! That will spread the crowd out a little more.

Whenever changes like these take place, there are always a few adjustments to be made. The idea is not only that we take them in our stride, but that we remember we made this move for the overall purpose of our mission. So, some discomfort may be experienced as we move through the change, but if it gives us more opportunity to share the gospel effectively, we can be positive and confident about it, and move ahead together.

The Church Council is very thankful for the way the church family has embraced these changes. If you like t give your thoughts, feel free to send them to dave@redlandscrc.org.au

Prayer

- Continue to uphold the Miller family as they mourn Emma Miller, who went to be with the Lord last week.

- Please pray for Ray Miller, who underwent surgery today for a tumour near his brain. We're awaiting results of how it all went, and will advise when we  know more.

- Please pray for Charlotte Miller who spent the night in hospital with an unknown illness, and for Keith and Dorien as they monitor her at home. Pray that doctors may be able to determine her illness.
