Midweek News
Sunday
9am & 5pm: We live in a ‘take it or leave it' culture. We pretty much choose what we will do, have, etc. If we don't like it, we generally don't do it. Its easy come, easy go. But can we do that with Jesus? Does he boil down to personal preference, ok for you, but not for me? Is he good, if I can get something from him in return? Or is there something more to the claims that this man makes?
This Sunday, we will look at the authority that Jesus has, and what it means to submit to that authority as his follower. Read ahead in Luke 5:1-11.

Nominations sought for a new elder
Peter Goodridge has decided to close his term as elder. We have been particularly blessed by Peter's role in the eldership and in the ministry team. He has been a great servant - we wish him well as he steps aside, and ask that the Lord will continue to bless him in his future ministry.
Elders Terms & Task
Redlands CRC is blessed with many who covenant with God, through Jesus, to pursue the way of living described below. They live and serve as Elders every day, and their lives would be no different if the title "Elder" were attached to their names. At times, however, God calls out some of these individuals to formally serve in the leadership of Redlands CRC as an Elder.
Qualifications
Elders are chosen according to biblical qualifications outlined in the New Testament (e.g. Acts 20:28; Rom 12:3-8; 1 Tim 3:1-7; Titus 1:5-9). They are to be examples to the congregation in terms of spirituality and Christian life. They fully understand, support, promote and protect the mission and vision of this community. The elder displays this with an enduring commitment to
Belong: drawing people into greater levels of involvement at Redlands CRC, and by encouraging the church to enfold and welcome them. This person is committed to community
Journey: leading people into a more mature expression of the Christian faith through the pursuit of teaching which is faithful to Scripture and congruent with our statements of faith. This person is committed to growth
Serve: by encouraging excellence in ministry, drawing people into service, by ensuring the church is prepared for its calling as God's people. This person is committed to ministry
Go: encouraging full participation of God's people into the mission he has given to us. Caring about the world God cares about, this person is committed to mission
Glorify: guiding people to honour God in all areas of life, in every place God takes them, at all times. They believe all of life is spiritual and that the church is called to have Christ at the centre of everything. This person is committed to worship
Responsibilities - Shared with others in the eldership:
- - Engaging in the theological, philosophical, and practical discussions about the kinds of things that Redlands CRC is and protecting passionately against what it is not
- - Shaping the missional identity of Redlands CRC and ensuring that all church structures and ministries maintain alignment with that identity
- - Living and breathing the missional identity of Redlands CRC; talking about it directly and indirectly, formally and informally in every possible situation
- - Participating in the development of a process for identifying strategic plans needed to realise the vision and establishing key success factors for attaining those plans
- - Providing accountability and oversight to the Pastors and the Ministry Team
- - Ensuring that the Redlands CRC community receives excellent pastoral care
- - Leading in prayer, spiritual devotion, and discipleship
Individual Responsibilities
- - Assessing the spiritual health of the church and taking responsibility to strengthen and nurture or move toward wholeness in specific areas as they are identified
- - Shepherding the staff and key volunteer leaders so that they are spiritually equipped to lead the community well
- - Fully engaging unique and sometimes difficult conversations with individuals from within the community who need pastoring or leading with respect to a specific concern or issue
Breakfast Meeting
The whole church is asked to come to a breakfast meeting on March 8 from 7:30am. This will be a great opportunity to share some time together, and hear something of the vision and plans for 2008 and beyond. We really would love for you to join us!
The main items of discussion and/or adoption will be
- - Approval to appoint a Ministry Administrator, who will assist with some administrative tasks with a view to helping ministry become more effective and develop in a more responsible manner (this will commence as a half time position)
- - Approval of tender processes for the extension to the current facility
- - Brief outline of various areas of ministry developing at RCRC
Christian Reformed Churches Women Association Convention
Brisbane 20-24 June 2008
The organizing committee would like to share with you where we are at in the planning of the next

Heyburn and Joyce Graetz, both living in Queensland and well known in "Know your Bible" circles
The convention venue is Watson Park in Narangba, a large modern complex.
We are very excited about the fact that we have finalized our costing and can now offer this
fabulous weekend of spiritual growth, fun and fellowship for the sum of $285.00, all inclusive, with
an "early-bird" discount of $20.00 if payment is made by March 31 2008. This is almost the same
price as the convention in 2006.
Enrolment forms should be available from your church office or can be obtained from the above
address, and there is more information in the September issue of the "Trowel and Sword".
Numbers are limited to 250 and we already have approximately 160 enrolments, so don't delay and

Twenty20 Cricket
Due to popular demand we are organising the RCRC team/teams early this year. Inter-Church Twenty20 cricket will kick off on the 5th of April and 2008 will be the 3rd season of this competition. In the past years RCRC has finished 4th and 3rd , so we're on the way up!
This is a Saturday afternoon competition (1-4:30) and goes for roughly 10 weeks. It is an all ages event (min age = 15) and a great way to mix with people from Church or a way of bringing your friends along to a Church associated event. If this sounds like something that you would like to be a part of, get on board!

Africian Documentary
I know many of you, my church family, showed copious amounts of support when Heather and I travelled to Zambia last July. Well, a couple of men who were with us on the trip have gone on to shoot a documentary of Southern Africa's street children called 'Ubuntu - The Street Child Story'. God's been awesome and enabled Victoria Pt cinemas to have a one time showing. The fella that filmed it also went with us on the camp we ran in Livingstone. He decided he wanted a shot of our old minibuses driving along past this magical view of the zambezi river. So, with 70 kids and leaders all crammed in, we drove back, waited for him to set up the camera on the side of the road, then had to gun these poor mobiles round the corner so we'd pick up enough speed to make it look like we were just cruising along. unfortunately, every time we'd get to the perfect point a stinkin car would drive past on the other side of the road, ruining the shot. It took four long attempts, and a lot of wahooing from the kids, but we finally got it! Not sure why I'm telling this story, but if you haven't fallen asleep and are somehow still reading along, I salute you and offer a conragulatory reward of coming along to see Ubuntu!
Here's the d-tails:
When: Friday 29 Feb, 7.15
Cost: $15 per seat
Where: Victoria Pt Cineplex
I've only got about 10 seats to offer at this stage so please let me know by email utterbalderdash@hotmail.com or call 0432 774 614 and I'll get your name and we can arrange to meet at a park bench somewhere wearing trenchcoats and carrying briefcases full of unmarked bills...or i'll just see you at church this sunday.
Cheers! love suz
p.s here's some stats about the countries filmed in:
Zambia - 1.1 million orphans
Lesotho - 23% HIV/AIDS infection
Zimbabwe - Life expectancy: 36 years
Congo - Under five mortality rate: 197 per 1000
Malawi - $650 income per person per year
