Saturday Breakfast

Come to Breakfast! Sat March 8, 7.30am

The Elders are asking all RCRC people to join them for breakfast on Saturday March 8 from 7:30am (we should easily be finished by 10am)

Vision 2008.

Dave will give a broad outline of where we are at, how God has blessed us, and where he may take us this year. This will include a brief overview of our main growth areas and our major challenges. It's great to see the Lord at work in his people, and we will have opportunity to give him all the glory for all he has done and continues to do

We will also be looking at a few specific area for focussed discussion

1.     Land & Building Update. Frank Hemelaar will outline the current state of play with the extension of the current building. The plans have been approved by Redland Council, and we are progressing towards the tender process. This will involve asking for quotes, choosing a successful tender, and moving ahead into construction phase.

2.     Dan Kroon - role expansion. The Committee responsible for placing ministry trainees (‘vicars') in CRCA congregations has approved Redlands request that Dan Kroon serve his vicariate in Redlands. The additional pastoral demands mean that expanding Dan's internship is a timely thing to do. We see an expansion of his workload from 1 ½ - 3 days as a logical step. CRCA Vicariate Committee approval opens up some funding for this expansion. Consequently, we are seeking the congregation's approval to expand Dan's role to three days per week for 2008, and then full time for Jan-Jun 2009.

Ordinarily, a Vicar placement is a full time arrangement. The time and service commitment we are being asked to make is the typical expectation to complete this part of training for ministry.

The funding received from the CRCA Committee, while helpful ($32,500 pa), does not completely cover all our responsibilities. We are therefore asking the congregation to approve an additional outlay of about $10,000 for calendar year 2008 to make up the shortfall. A similar commitment will be required for Jan-Jun 2009.

Motion: that Dan Kroon be appointed as Vicar at Redlands CRC in accordance with the recommendations from the CRCA Vicariate Committee.

3.     Ministry Administrator (part time): Late last year we advised that it has become necessary to appoint a part time ministry administrator at RCRC. We need your approval and support to move ahead with this.

We very much believe that this position can be designed to help us give better leadership and support to various ministry areas. We have designed this role to give specific focus to

  • more effectively identify and utilise people's gifts and talents
  • develop and drive ministry, enabling a better focussing toward specific goals
  • assist the church in its overall mission and calling
  • more effectively manage the membership records of the RCRC church family

Our belief is that within the right task focus and the right person, we can make an appointment that will be a great blessing to the Redlands church family.

Our estimation is that salary for this half time position will cost around $20,000 per year.

Motion: That Redlands CRC approve the appointment of a part time ministry administrator (half time)

Sunday

9am & 5pm: We have covered a lot of ground: Jesus had - as has - all the authority of God himself; he came as our rescuer; he took upon himself the judgement we deserve. The inescapable question is: how do you respond? What do you think? Where do you stand? You cannot ignore him - so, what then? What is the appropriate response to Jesus?
