Take the step... Day 2
There are some things I just do not want to own up to.
I don't like to admit that I have failed God, and I don't want to admit that I have failed myself. But I do need to say that this is my reality. And it is my reality because of my fallen inner nature.
I admit, Father, that I have to change my mind about myself. So before you I acknowledge here and now
· That life does not work when I am in the driver's seat - that is your place, Jesus, and your place alone. I have been fooling myself to think that I can do life without your loving leadership steering my life
· There is no way for me to deal with the ugly bits within me without your grace and power, Lord Jesus. How I need you!
· That I reject completely the lie that I am the most important person in the world. Instead, I gladly say, "Jesus, your are the ruler of my life and the master of my soul!"
· That it must have grieved you, and still does grieve you, every time I try to do any aspect of life independently of your rule. I am so sorry for grieving you, especially after you have gone to that wretched cross and taken the hammering instead of me
· I need your grace, strength, and the power of your Spirit to change my mind about myself. Renew me from the inside out! Jesus, full of grace, keep doing your powerful work of change in me!
"Father, I have sinned against heaven and against you. I am no longer worthy to be called your child..." Luke 15:22
So, now, take a step. A step of gratitude. A step of faith. A step of commitment. A step of hope.
This coming Sunday the entire Redlands CRC family get to make a statement of faith about what Jesus means to them.
Maybe you've just come to understand who Jesus is and what he has done for you. Maybe you want to reaffirm the faith he blessed you with sometime before. Or perhaps you want to break with some behaviour or attitude which you know grieves him - not to mention others.
Sunday will be the day (both services).
You will all have an opportunity to attach your statement of response to the cross.
You can prepare something at home, and bring it along. You can write it on the notepaper provided on Sunday. You can even email it in advance (you may be on the other side of the world).
Jesus took that huge step for you, and he is calling you to take a step and change your mind about him. There's no better way to respond.
