Mid Week News

 Sunday

9am: "It's not what you think." This week we are starting a new series looking at Luke 14. In this chapter Jesus has a number of different things to say about himself, and about following him. In each of these incidents he is challenging the commonly accepted views on life and religion. Jesus' words a just as challenging today as they were 2000 years ago. He tells us that his version of life, the real version of life, is very different to what we might be expecting. Prepare to be challenged. (you can read ahead in Luke 14:1-14).

5pm:  Our response to a God who has given us everything is to live as givers in this world. We don't do this through our own strength, but through the grace of God. And because of this we trust that God can use what we have in our hands to do great things. Nothing is too small for him to work with and no cause is too hopeless for his changing power. When we give of ourselves, we don't do it to highlight our own generosity, but to highlight what God will do through us. He can turn the ordinary stuff in our hands into something amazing and extraordinary! And there exists our confidence to give. Passage: Mark 4:26-32.

Thank You!

To all those who supported the Garage Sale over the past weekend. A BIG thank you for all your efforts. About $2400 was raised to support international and local organisations for those in need. These include people in Burma and India.

More Thanks!

 As I Leave..........

By the time enews is sent out this week, I will be boarding a plane for Burma.   I would like to express my deepest and sincerest thanks on behalf of the leaders and orphans at New Life Orphanage for the generosity that you all at RCRC have shown. Your monetary gifts, donations of clothing, rain jackets, pain relief medication, vitamins and baby products has been overwhelming.  Thanks to YAK who also donated their Garage Sale funds to the Burma cause. Not only that, but I would like to acknowledge all those who are sponsoring children so faithfully each year or are filling our money tins until they are almost bulging at the sides....thankyou.....we could not continue this work without you.

I would like to tell you a story about someone in our church who has really touched my heart.
A couple of weeks ago, I was given the opportunity to talk to the children at kids@church and kids@nite about the New Life Orphanage and about the dreadful situation after the cyclone.
The children were rather shocked by the way these people have had to struggle just to get food on their plates. To think that these Burmese children first lose their parents and then a cyclone comes and destroys a large part of their 'home'. To imagine the cyclone victims down south  losing their families and their home altogether. That's a pretty big thing for us Australians to understand. Well this certainly did touch the hearts of our children.

There was one boy in particular, who really took this home and pondered over it and wanted to do something to help. Five year old Lincoln Morrow, took it upon himself to try and raise some funds for the orphans in Burma. After consulting with his parents, he set out to the neighbours in his street and asked if he could do some jobs for them so that he could earn some money to give to Burma. He spent the last 2 weeks cleaning car tyres, picking up twigs or leaves and for some neighbours the job he was given was 'to give them a hug'. For the last 2 Sundays little Lincoln has been discreetly and shyly giving me little bags of money to bring to the children in Burma.  As you can imagine, I was a teary mess, when I saw the love and compassion of this little boy. A true reflection of Jesus.  I thank the Lord for you Lincoln...

Please pray for me as I spend 2 weeks in Burma. I am somewhat apprehensive because I believe this will be the most difficult trip I've ever done. At the same time I am assured that God goes before me and He will never let me go.

Thankyou.
Janette
