Congregational Meeting: This Saturday.
This Saturday, 8am, for breakfast, we are having a congregational meeting at the church. The purpose of meeting like this is more than simply approving budgets and information about where we are as a church. Its about building the community around the mission that Jesus has sent us on. So we will be talking about the vision of the church, where we will be focusing attention in the next 12 months, along with the building and financial plans to support this vision. We would encourage as many from the congregation as possible to be there as we continue to grow and mature together.
Sunday
9am: Its not what you think #3. Jesus is so cool. I mean he takes care of my sin, he washes my soul clean, and sorts out the issue of where I go when I die. He really lets me get on with the rest of my life, knowing those things are taken care of. Like a handy laundry detergent, "gives me peace of mind so I can get on with the rest of my day." But is that what Jesus has in mind when he calls us to follow him? Is he only interest in part, or all of our lives? IN this passage (Luke 14:25-35) Jesus has some pretty tough stuff to say - basically when it come to him, he wants everything, and no other rivals.
5pm: Job: Beyond good and evil.
This Sunday night we will look at the story of Job and try to understand some of the story behind his suffering.
Was Job being punished for something he did or didn't do, or was he just the victim of a cruel game played by God?
What does Job's story teach us about suffering, and do we see the same sort of thing today?
How was Job's relationship with God changed through this experience, and what does it have to say to us about our faith in God?
