Mid Week News
Sunday
9am: "I have a friend... " final message
Who are you on a Monday morning? We all know the reality, church on Sunday was great, a real lift, a boost, a reconnection with God and his people, a recommitment to God's mission. But come Monday morning, something has happened. Its like 8 hours of sleep slowly dissolved everything that was so certain and sure the day before. So how do we close that gap, how do we deal with the disparity of Sunday vs. the rest of the week. This Sunday morning we wrap up your series on the topics you wanted covered, by looking at Double Life: Sunday vs. the rest of the week. We will wrestle with 1 Peter 2:4-5, and have our vision of Jesus, his people and his mission expanded, beyond Sunday, and on into the week.
5pm: Blokes World #4
What drives men to get compulsive about some things? Why is it easy for a man to work too hard and too long too often? How can we find a sense of balance? Is it really possibly to really love your work, really love your family/others, and really love God all at the same time? And why did Jesus invest so much effort as an apprentice carpenter with Joseph, only to become a preacher/rabbi?
Congregational Breakfast
Saturday August 16 (from 8:00am) the whole church family will meet to finalise plans and accept a tender for the extensions. Not sure what you think, but these really are great times of fellowship. You get to meet people, share a meal, and see how the people of God can do business well. We really want a strong and united voice, and we want to see the place packed out. Small Group Leaders: please encourage every family represented in your group to come along. Come on, young people, old people, families - this is your church! Please come, and let's walk this road together!
"Draw Near - Opening yourself to God"
Dave's next series, starting August 24 (AM), will look at different aspects of deepening and developing our relationship with God. I'd like to ask you:
- What specific actions, habits, or disciplines have been helpful for your growing walk with Jesus?
• What questions do you have about the Christian faith and how you give expression to it in your life?
I am very interested in hearing from you, so feel free to email dave@redlandscrc.org.au
SWIM Team
In September/October this year the Wamberal Christian Reformed Church is conducting a SWIM trip to the village of Samasodu in the Solomon Islands. At present a team of 22 people have committed to the project which will involve building some toilet blocks, running an education program in the village school, running a ministry training course and also a youth bible study group. There is room for another 5 Christians to join the Wamberal group. The cost is $1,500 in total which includes airfares, transport, boat fares, meals and accommodation. The specific dates of the trip are:
Departure Date : Thursday 25 September 2008
Return Date : Tuesday 14 October 2008
If you are interested in joining the Team, then please contact Rod Peet on 0412 058 848.
CAR WASH
Our tank is full - so Saturday 23rd August is our first Car Wash in quite a while. The Car Wash will be 8am -12noon. Sign up for a shift (or two) by emailing Malcolm Van Basten with your availability (vanbasten@royalfoods.com.au) or look for, and fill in, the sign-up sheet at Community Central on Sunday.
We need people to wash cars, carry and re-fill buckets, organise refreshments and chat to the customers. This is one of those great times when our community comes to us - and an opportunity for everyone to take part (and have some fun as well.)
Singing @ RCRC
Last week we started receiving your suggestions on the yellow slips as to the songs that you think connect best with RCRC, and draw us into a heartfelt response of praise. The Music Team really are after specific song suggestions, so if you write ‘we want the drums louder!' or ‘can we have more contemporary songs!' or ‘I really love the traditional hymns' you're not helping too much. So, this Sunday, please give specific song titles. Remember: the issue is which specific songs help us praise God most effectively as a body of believers.
Thanks.
Prayer
- Keep praying for God to give opportunities for the whole congregation to be drawn into mission projects in our local area. Backyard Mission, Meals on Wheels, Chaplaincy, visiting - ask God to deepen our desire to honour God as a servant church in his world
- Chaplaincy needs: Ormiston State School will be without a chaplain after this term. Please pray for a servant-hearted follower of Jesus with gifts to work with the students and staff at the school. Also, on Saturday Carlee Spiers, Chaplain at Victoria Point High School will take a team of VPHS students to Vanuatu as a mission project for 10 days. This is a huge responsibility for Carlee and the other team leaders (Paul Johnstone and the VPHS Principal). Please pray that this will be a great context for the transforming work of Jesus to come to expression
- Remember the sick and infirm, asking that God's mercy in his Son will surround them through his people.
