 Special Backyard Mission

We have 2 missions that require some urgent attention - One is at Wellington Point and the other is at Alexandra hills. I was hoping to get these in by Saturday 13 September.

First - This is for an elderly lady who lives on her own and has great difficulty walking - Mrs Craven. What is required is just some general yard tidy up, the cutting off of the odd branch or two, removal of a small tree.

Second - is a member of the congregation who's garden is getting away from her. I am yet to visit this property however am told that it needs some mowing, wiper snipping, hedging and general tidy up.

I would really like to help these two ladies out and am sure that we can do it. If we split up into 2 teams on the day we can (via myself) transport the trailer between sites or have some one provide a 2nd trailer. This is really dependent upon the numbers that I can get.

What would be required - chainsaws, ladders (for some Branches at Mrs Craven's home), mowers, wiper snippers, hedgers, rakes, blower/vac (will look at the one at church) and gloves.

Mrs Craven is a lovely lady who does an enormous amount of charity work within the community and it would be great if we could give this lady something in return - she has already said she cannot believe that people would come to her house and do this for her.

Jo from Church really needs some help in the yard and it would be great to show her Gods helping hand to assist those in need.

Would everyone please really consider this and let me know asap if you are able to assist. If I cannot get the numbers (am looking at 14 people all up), I would be looking at Jo's house for the 13th and Mrs Craven the 27th.

Sunday

9am: The ‘Draw Near' series continues: we'll be looking at what Jesus says about fasting, and what role it may have in giving expression to our walk with God. We'll debunk some myths about fasting and seek to discover its true value. Some important lessons to learn about listening to our bodies, and speaking without our mouths. And we'll get a little healthier, in all sorts of ways. Read ahead at Matt 6:16-18; Is 58:5-6

5pm: What happens when God's people pray for him to work powerfully? In Acts 4 we find out how God works through people to bring a community of hope. Read ahead at Acts 4:1-31

Walk Through the Bible.

Have you ever read a part of the Bible and wondered "What on earth is going on there?" Ever wondered what Abraham, Jezebel and Amos have to do with Jesus? Ever wondered why we bother to read and study the Old Testament when its just so... different?

We have all struggled to understand the Bible at times. Culture, language and 2000 years or more of history separate us from the world of the Bible, so its no wonder that this is the case. But yet the same time the Bible claims that its worth studying. "All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness so that the man of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work." 2 Timothy 3:16-17. Jesus says that the whole Bible points to Him. "You diligently study the Scriptures because you think that by them you possess eternal life. These are the Scriptures that testify about me..." John 5:39-40.

And so starting on Sunday 21st, and going for 8 weeks, we will be starting a new series called "Walk Through the Bible." Through this series we will be looking at how the Bible fits together as whole, how it points to Jesus, and how it points us to God's continuing mission in the world, and our part in that.

Normally when we would start a new sermon series we would ask you to read the relevant book or chapters. But when we are going to be taking in the whole Bible, that's a bit difficult. (Although reading through the whole Bible is still encouraged). One book that you might find helpful in preparation for the series is "From Creation to New Creation" by Tim Chester. It is available from Koorong for about $22.

Urgent: Sponsorships Required SU Breakout Camp

Last year a number of RCRC people enriched the lives of Victoria Point High School students by sponsoring some of the students at the SU Outbreak Camp.
This camp is a Scripture Union initiative for high school kids where they will be exposed to the gospel message. There were some great results at last year's camp. The camp is $250.00 for 3 nights which is hugely expensive for some of the families in the school. Carlee Spiers is looking for sponsors who can pay half ($125) of the camp to assist these families.
Please make the most of this great opportunity to support this important ministry. We need the sponsors within the next 24 hours.
You can call or email Carlee on 0423 431 597 or email on carlee32@hotmail.com

The Titus Challenge

During the month of September, Dave has asked us to read the letter of Tutus every day. This exercise is given as part of the Draw Near series, and in preparation for the coming series on Tutus. As you read, pray simply...
Lord, show me what I need to see...
Tell me what I need to hear...
Help me say I what others need to hear...
Help me do what you would have me do...

Missing BBQ??

Does anyone know the whereabouts of the church BBQ and gas bottle as they have gone missing. Please contact Hans Eshuis or Bill Sikkema.

Prayer

- Please remember Tony Roberts' family and friends as they come to terms with his death. Pray for the Gospel to be felt and heard. Tony's funeral is at Mt Cotton at 1:00 pm on Friday

- Continue to uphold the Mostert family, following Aad's funeral this week

- Please pray that our building project will go smoothly - remember that the main purpose of all this is to keep ministry and mission in sharp focus and working effectively. Pray that our relevant applications before council can be approved, and that in God's timing buyers can be found for the property we are seeking to sell

- Please remember those who are not well: Margaret Harwood, Merle Digby, Alana Salisbury, Clinton (on crutches at present) - ask for healing, restoration and patience.

- Raylene Williams had surgery today (Wed), pray for quick recovery.
