Mid Week News
Sunday
9am: Do you ever think about our vision ‘to see the city of Redlands become a community of hope' and then think to yourself ‘Yeah, right'. How can we be serious about this when the task seems so huge, impossible even? Who are we trying to kid?
Jesus' words about this are profound, challenging, perhaps even confronting. And Dave is going to open them up next Sunday. You won't want to miss this. Read ahead at Matt 14:13-22
5pm: If all we ever knew about from Christmas was from Christmas Cards, we would get a very interesting picture of what happened when Jesus was born. It would be a very pretty scene, clean barn, clean animals, Mary looking like she had just stepped out of a salon. Joseph the kind of rugged good looking type that should have made an appearance in the new movie "Australia." But when we begin to read the New Testament, and have our images shaped by the Bible, we get a very different picture. It is in fact all so... ordinary. This week we start a new series called "Four Christmases" looking at the birth of Jesus from the point of view of 4 different groups of people, and what they experience, and what they have to teach us. This week we start with looking at Mary and Joseph, so read ahead in Matthew 1:18-25 and Luke 1:26-38

Prayer
- Albert Verkruissen received a cochlear implant on Monday. What a blessing! Please pray for successful operation of the device and a speedy recovery for Albert
- Continue to remember Phil & Bev following their trip to Geelong for Bev's brother's funeral
- Paul Johnston and Carlee Spiers will marry on Sunday at Stradbroke Island. On Sunday 7th Matt Harwood and Alison Clarke will marry in Paddington. The week after (13th) Jesse Murphy and Lyndal Garland marry, and the week after that Lachlan Black and Bonnie Sikkema marry here in Ormiston. Man! What have they been putting in our water?? Ah, but it's all good - and we surround these young couples in prayer as they start their married lives together.
- This week Rob Ferguson will be down on the Gold Coast with Red Frogs, ministering to the schoolies. Please pray for Rob, and text him (0433 483 473) every now and then. Let him know his church family is behind him as he does this great Kingdom work!
New Elders - Affirmation Vote
The Eldership is seeking the congregation's affirmation of Frank Lanaro and Kev Hudson as elders at RCRC. We are very thankful that Frank and Kev have agreed to serve, to relieve both Frank Hemelaar and Dave Klease, who have served well for a number of years. The congregation will be asked to affirm the two new elders on Sunday November 30, 2008 (votes will be cast by members in both AM & PM services). Our rules for election state that in order to be elected each candidate must receive at least 80% positive votes of all votes cast.
Normally, all other serving elders are also affirmed in an election, but with all currently serving elders still in their initial term of two years, the affirmation votes is unnecessary this time around.
Anyone wishing to receive a copy of the Rules for Election can receive one by emailing mnugent@redlandscrc.org.au or asking anyone on eldership.

MARRIAGE COURSE 2009
Here's an 'early planning' announcement.
We are organizing another Marriage Course in April/May 2009.
I talked it over at Church Council and the general consensus was that Saturdaynight may not be the best choice. So we are looking at Wednesdaynight, the second half of April and the month of May. We will keep you posted, but do make a preliminary note in your diary.

Let's Sing Those Carols!
I'd also encourage us to warmly engage with the Carols preparation. We're serious about wanting to see Redlands become a community of hope, and singing that message loud and clear is just one way we can do this. We all know Christmas and the lead up is a busy time: all the more reason for us to be focussed about the message of Jesus. Let the love and grace of Jesus radiate, friends, and show those around us that living for Jesus really is life to the full. Sunday 14th December. Dave
