9am: The Gospel of Ruth.
The story of Ruth is a very simple story at heart. It's the classic girl meets boy - girl and boy get married - boy dies - girl moves in with the mother-in-law - girl finds another boy - falls in love - gets married  - everyone lives happily ever after - type of story. It's the sort of story that speakers at women's conferences like to use, and it's a popular study topic for groups of teenage girls, because both Ruth and Naomi are such strong, heroic characters. But we want to see that the reasons for including Ruth's story in the Bible go much wider and deeper than just her strength of character. These reasons go right to the heart of God and what He is doing in this world, and so God is really the focus of this story, not Ruth.
If you get the chance, please read through the story before Sunday - it's only 4 chapters - and it will give you a good head start on the message.

5pm: TIME magazine has honoured Barrack Obama as the "2008 Person of the Year".  Do we live our lives in such a way that we matter?  What kind of recognition or honour would you receive?  What would it take for us to have our picture on the cover of TIME magazine?  As we think about the year ahead, how we live our lives today will have an impact on how we will live our lives into the future and even eternity.  Jesus is prepared to do for us in heaven what we are prepared to do for him on earth.  We are to live our lives in such a way that we will receive divine recognition.
