Growing Together – Forgive One Another

Among the commands to love and encourage one another, we receive a command for when our Christian brothers and sisters fail us in those very things. Our one-another responsibilities in the church do not cease if others break the rules. In Ephesians 4:32 Paul directs sinned-against Christians to ‘Be kind and compassionate to one another, forgiving each other, just as in Christ God forgave you.’ Forgive is a big word, a huge concept. John Macarthur writes, ‘For a Christian to be wilfully unforgiving is unthinkable. We who have been forgiven by God Himself have no right to withhold forgiveness from our fellow sinners… God commands us to forgive others—it reflects His character.’ If forgiveness is an integral part of our Christian faith, how do we do it; what does it look like; how can we extend God’s grace through it?

Bible Passage: Ephesians 4:29-32

Are You A Christian

In 2 Corinthians Paul tells us to ‘Examine yourselves, to see whether you are in the faith. Test yourselves. (2 Cor 13:5a)’ It’s easy to look like a Christian but to not really be a Christian. This Sunday evening we’re going to look at what it means to be a Christian, and to examine ourselves, to see whether our faith is real.
