The attention of the entire world (and ours) is focussed on London where our greatest athletes are competing in the 2012 Olympic Games. For these athletes, life has been a journey of dedication, commitment, training and perseverance that has brought them to the glory of Olympic competition and the chance of a gold medal that marks them out as the best in the world.
The Bible is filled with Olympic terms and metaphors urging us to use the commitment of an athlete to be what God would have us to be. In 1 Corinthians 9 Paul uses the image of the Christian life being a race, where we strive to win the prize, a prize that comes after strict discipline and training. What does that look like for us? What does it mean for us to be training and competing in this race?
