Last week we heard that God is doing a great work in us by His Spirit to enable us to do good. This is a process that has begun and will be fulfilled when Jesus comes again, but at the end of that section, Paul raises the issue of suffering and strangely links it to our coming glory. Paul seems to say that the path to glory is through suffering, but how can that be? In fact, often it is suffering that makes us most doubt the promises of the early parts of Romans 8. Paul shows us that the opposite is true. God can even use suffering and trouble to shape us into the glorious likeness of His son.
