How can a good God allow suffering in this life? It’s a huge question, isn’t it? Hardly a day goes by when we don’t come across suffering. Devastation caused by earthquakes and tsunamis… millions living in poverty… children being abused… family breakdowns… bullying… people suffer. We suffer. So it’s right to say to God: “God, if you’re there, why don’t you do something about it?” People have endeavoured to come to grips with these puzzling questions from the dawn of recorded history. To humans, it seems so obvious – if God truly is, as Christians proclaim, all-loving and all-powerful, He could stop the evil and suffering in this world. So why doesn’t He? Atheists and agnostics often point to this conundrum to support their disbelief and scepticism. How does a believer answer? As part of our apologetic series we will tackle this topic on Sunday night.
