In the first section of Romans Paul lays out the beautiful truth of the gospel. The gospel is certain and clear and it must be carefully guarded because the gospel is God’s power to save. If we mess up the gospel, we make it harder for people to know God. However, not everything is so clear. There are choices that we need to make as Christians that are not clearly defined in the Bible. They are matters of conscience, or of opinion and interpretation. So how do we deal with the situation where we, as followers of Jesus, come to different conclusions? How do we get on together? How do we avoid unnecessary conflict and division? How, in the midst of disagreement on the best way to honour Jesus, can we build one another up? That’s our topic this Sunday morning and next Sunday as we take a look at Roman 14 and the first part of 15.
