We are drawing to a close in our study of this great epistle to the Romans, and this letter closes just as it began, with a personal word from the apostle about himself, and about the church in Rome. It seems like some miscellaneous greetings and comments, so it is tempting to skip over these verses as being unnecessary. However, we are reminded of Paul’s words in verse 15:4, ‘For everything that was written in the past was written to teach us, so that through endurance taught in the Scriptures and the encouragement they provide we might have hope.’ With that in mind we look at these last verses in Paul’s letter and what we find is an encouragement for the believers in Rome to continue in what they know and be faithful in what they teach. So, there is still a word for us in these verses and we will mine them together.
