In the last two sermons on Colossians we have seen how Paul has given thanks for the church in Colossae. Epaphras has reported to Paul of the great faith in Jesus, and their love for each other. Paul now continues to rejoice in his suffering for the ministry to the Colossians, and to explain a great “mystery” that is unfolding to the Gentiles. But he is concerned that they may stray from the Gospel and become involved in extra-biblical teaching. He is concerned that they stay disciplined. This is a theme that continues into all of our current lives.
