The right place at the right time. Coincidence? Chance? Good luck? The wrong place at the wrong time. Bad luck? Fate? Accidental? Is this how we look at the circumstances of our lives? Where is God in all of this. That was the question that plagued Naomi in chapter 1 as she wonders why she has been dealt such a hard life. Even then she missed the beauty of a daughter-in-law’s confession of faith and love for her. The chapter ends with the note that they arrived in time for the barley harvest. Now in chapter 2 Ruth ‘happens’ to be in the right place at the right time and in a ‘coincidence’ ends up under the protection and care of an extended family member. God has been there all along and it is amazing to see his perfect timing bringing more into the life of Naomi and Ruth than they could ever hope or wish for. If God does it in the lives of these ordinary people, what about in our lives? Let’s explore these ideas together on Sunday evening.
