Legendary American football coach Vince Lombardi famously said: “winning isn’t everything, it’s the only thing.” The apostle Paul, describing life metaphorically as a race, says that his aim is to win the ‘race’ and not to lose it (Phil 3:12-14; 1 Cor 9:24-27; 2 Tim 4:6-8). Both these famous authors wanted the exact same thing – victory! One craved it in the game of football and the other in the ‘game’ of life. But what is victory in the ‘game’ of life? And if we can successfully define what that victory is, how do we get it? This Sunday as we celebrate the churches cricket competition drawing to a close we’ll unpack these questions.
