Philippians: What is Humility?

“Whatever happens, conduct yourselves in a manner worthy of the gospel of Christ.” These are Paul’s words to the Philippian Christians and to us when it comes to how we should live. Our every action, every word, every thought are to be done in a ‘manner worthy of the gospel of Christ’. It’s perhaps somewhat easy to see the implications of this for us as individuals, but what does it mean for us as a Christian group of people in relationships with each other? Karl Barth once commented: “there are no letters in the New Testament apart from the problems of the church.” Every letter addresses issues that God’s church faced then and most certainly faces now. In light of this, what is it that will make this group of Christians – us, Redlands Christian Reformed Church – a church worthy of the gospel of Christ in our dealings with one another? This morning we’ll consider the deep and absolute call that God places on the life of his church in order to be ‘worthy of the gospel of Christ’
