Mark starts his gospel with the statement: The beginning of the gospel about Jesus Christ, the Son of God. That’s it. Mark doesn’t argue the point, instead he went on to demonstrate it, reporting a series of unique events and acts that made it clear who Jesus is. As you read through the gospel there is a sense of urgency in Mark as he strives to make it clear that the one he wrote about is the Son of God, come to live in our world; come to display in all he says and does the character of God. Ultimately he comes to show that the one called the Son of God was forsaken by God so we wouldn’t have to. All we can do is stand in awe of the one who gave it all. The question that gets asked of us readers today is…who is Jesus to you?
