Wisdom of Words

Word are important. After all, God created the universe with words. He spoke and it was so. Jesus was called THE WORD. “In the beginning was the Word and the Word was with God and the Word was God. And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us.” Proverbs has a lot to say about what we say and how we use our words. Tongue, words, and lips are used over 150 times so it certainly is a central issue. In fact, Proverbs tells us that the tongue (words) has the power of life and death (18:21)!

But it is not just the spoken word that can be used for good or bad, or have the power of life and death. With Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Snapchat, text messaging, email, and every other form of online communication we have power with the words we use. They can be used to encourage people, make people laugh, share helpful information, and so much more. But social networks can also be used to kill a person. We hear from time to time that yet another young person has been so lost and desperate that they chose to end their life. Investigations show the deep hurt experienced by words used in social media.

Today we will look at some of the wisdom God grants us in how we use our words.
